Before we begin, first you will need to know the brand/model of the bike/heart rate monitor you plan to use. Because each bike differs from user to user, a little bit of research is necessary.
Step 1: Is your bike/heart rate monitor compatible with ANT+?
Check to see if your bike is listed on thisisant.com. If your equipment is listed, then you will need to purchase an ANT+ USB stick.
Step 2: Is your bike/heart rate monitor compatible with BLE?
If you have a Keiser M3i bike, or you plan to use a Polar H7, H10, OH1, and Polar Verity Sense Optical heart rate monitors, then you most likely will need to purchase a BLE USB stick from Spivi.
Please note that BLE USB sticks are only necessary if you plan to use a Windows PC to run Spivi Home.
If you use a Mac PC, and you are running MacOS v1.1.14 or later, then you do not need to purchase a BLE USB stick, as macOS v1.1.14 supports native Bluetooth that includes the following devices: HeartRate monitors, SpeedCadence sensors, Power Sensors, and Keiser M3i.
Step 3: If your indoor bike is not compatible with ANT+ or BLE, you can install an ANT+ compatible external cadence sensor directly onto your bike/trainer’s crank arm.
You can purchase a cadence sensor from Spivi. Please note that you will still need to purchase an ANT+ USB stick if you use an external cadence sensor.
