Using the Spivi® Performance Views to Educate and Motivate Your Members – Spivi

The Leaderboard

When it comes to Indoor Cycling classes, one of the great benefits Spivi® provides is the ability to collect and analyze rider data made in real time at your studio.

Spivi® collects data from sensors on each bike, combines it with age, weight, gender and workout history information, and processes everything so it can be used to educate and motivate your members.

Some types of bikes have built-in consoles that collect performance data and display information about the ride. Often, these numbers won’t match the data coming from the Spivi® sensors on each bike. Unlike built-in consoles, which collect data as soon as people start pedaling, Spivi® starts counting when the instructor begins the session, providing a more accurate view of the actual performance within the session. The burned Calorie (KCal) count may also be different because Spivi® uses multiple methods to more accurately calculate burned calories, taking the rider’s age and weight into account.

With a touch of a button, the instructor can display the Leaderboard (Performance Table) and let the class see their ongoing results. Once it’s displayed, the Leaderboard is updated in real-time, showing information on riders from the class, sorted by bike numbers or by rank.

What data is available on the Leaderboard?

Profile Picture: This is the personal picture of the rider. The picture can be set in the User Settings section of www.spivi.com. When a user signs-up using his/her Facebook ID, the Facebook profile picture can be used.
Seat Number: This is the rider’s bike number.
Name: The display name of the rider. This can be set in the User Settings section of www.spivi.com
Rank**: The rider’s position within the class. The position is based on the accumulated virtual distance the rider has made since the beginning of the session.
Heart Rate***: The measured rider’s Heart Rate BPM (Beats Per Minute).
Average Heart Rate***: The average measured rider’s Heart Rate BPM (Beats Per Minute).
%LTHR: The % of Lactate threshold HR.
Average %LTHR: The average % of Lactate threshold HR.
%Max HR: The % of Maximum HR.
Average %Max HR: The average % of Maximum HR.
Cadence: The actual RPM (Rotations Per Minute) a rider makes in real time.
Average Cadence: The average RPM (Rotations Per Minute) a rider makes in real time.
Speed: This is a virtual speed computed by Spivi® using all measured information.
Average Speed: This is the average virtual speed of a rider computed by Spivi® using all measured information.
Distance: The accumulated virtual distance a rider’s gone so far, computed by Spivi® based on all measured information.
Power: The measured output power in WATT units a rider produces in real time (requires a power sensor equipped bike).
Average Power: The average measured output power in WATT units a rider produces in real time (requires a power sensor equipped bike).
Energy: The energy in Kilojoules a rider has produced so far (KJ). Compared to Calories, Kilojoules are more consistent and accurate. Kilojoules measure physical energy expenditure, while Kilocalories (what we call “Calories” with a capital “C”) measure thermal energy. When looking at wattage, the more power you generate, the more energy you use.
%FTP: The % of Functional threshold power.
Average %FTP: The average % Functional threshold power.
Watt/kg: Watts per Kg.
Average Watt/kg: Average Watts per Kg.
Calories: Burned Calories (KCal).
SEP: Spivi® Ecosystem Points aka SEPs are an innovative metric for measuring physical effort in a uniform way across heterogeneous training group. Unlike traditional scoring systems that are based on absolute performance measures such as energy or speed etc which give an advantage to individuals with good fitness shape, the earned SEPs will reflect a personal physical effort level of each individual.
WPP: The Workout Program Points (WPP) is a proprietary metric developed by Spivi, that rewards members for training according to the workout goals. For each minute working out according to the program goals, a member earns 1 WPP.

* All data is available for display however some features might be set to be hidden on your system (see below how to turn them on)

** The Rank column is recommended for use only with power sensor equipped bikes. This feature is turned off by default and can be turned on remotely by the Spivi Team when requested by the studio.

*** Spivi® works with any ANT+ compatible heart rate strap and Polar H7, H10, OH1, and Polar Verity Sense Optical Heart Rate straps. Garmin and other ANT+ heart rate straps can be used with Spivi®. ANT+ is a managed ANT network that uses “device profiles” to define how to send data over the network in a consistent way. Riders can bind their own personal heart rate straps to Spivi® using the Spivi mobile app.

Displaying the Leaderboard

The Performance Table can be displayed (or hidden) at any time using the Green (A) button on the instructor controller provided by Spivi®.

Setting the Leaderboard Appearance

As a club owner or as a club administrator, you can set the appearance of the leaderboard and select which fields will be displayed on the Spivi® Performance Table. By default, the table is ordered by the bike number field. When Rank is checked, the table is ordered by the rank.

To set the appearance, go to the “My Studio” tab on our website, and select “Studio Leaderboard Appearance”.

Now, use the check-boxes to select which fields to show and which to hide.

When you are finished configuring your leaderboard, click on the Save Settings button. Your settings will by synced everytime a new class starts.

The Performance Target Views

Another way to show the data is using the Performance Target views. This view is used to display live data during the group workout in a form of multiple quadrangles, each focusing on a single value, such as Heart Rate, Power or Cadence. The Performance Target Views allows groups to train together and achieve group targets focused on a leading attribute such as Heart Rate, Power or Cadence.

Displaying the Performance Target View

The Performance Target View can be displayed (or hidden) at any time using:

Blue (X) button: Target Power
Red (B) button: Target Cadence
In-game menu: Target Heart Rate (MHR/LTHR)

Summary Table

When a class session has ended, the system displays the Performance Table for a 5-minute cool down phase. At that point, the Performance Table shows totals and averages related to the whole session.
